Every second spent in one of the game's many vibrant, unique areas is an absolute joy, as you can essentially customize your play style in whatever way you see fit. That being said, despite the notable flaws aligning it with the series as a whole, very few games are as utterly perfect when it comes to gameplay. The world-building is also at a minimum, opposite of the rich surroundings and stories crucial to the Final Fantasy franchise. There's no exploration of any towns, nor are there many characters to share meaningful interactions with. Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin defies most of the conventions of the franchise it's a part of. This game, somehow, is simultaneously an amazing game and a rough take on the start of the Final Fantasy series. The game contains many weapon classes for players to choose from (all of which operate on a bit of a learning curve), but once players get comfortable, gameplay is seamless and endlessly satisfying. There's also heavy cursing throughout the game in the form of "damn," "hell," "s-t," and "f-k." Considering the game's heavy emphasis on one-note characters, there aren't too many chances to identify strong role models, despite the group's overall noble intentions. In some bloody encounters with enemies (featuring a range of weapons from swords and axes to guns and lances), gruesome takedowns can occur where Jack, the main character, can snap enemies' necks, rip off their limbs, or stomp them until they're destroyed (among other brutal methods). Playing as agents against the forces of Chaos who are trying to plunge the land of Cornelia into eternal darkness, players will end up uprooting evil in violent, graphic ways. This game is a reimagining of the very first game in the Final Fantasy series and includes DLC (downloadable content) that players will have to purchase separately if they want more answers regarding the conclusion of the main game (unless they purchase the Deluxe Edition, which includes all the post-game content). Parents need to know that Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is a downloadable single-player/multiplayer action RPG (role-playing game) currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows-based PCs.
